Recent Locations#
- Location 1: Willamette Valley, OR
- Highlight: Not a very specific location, but I spent the week on a work trip in part of the Willamette that I’ve never been before, which is most of it not counting I-5. Lebanon, Detroit Lake, Sublimity, Oregon City, and Sandy were just a few spots I drove through.
- Location 2: Camelot theater, Talent OR
- Highlight: Haleigh surprised me with a show at our local theater! It was called Highlight on Garth Brooks, there was a live band that played many of his biggest songs in chronological order while a narrator told the story of his career. The band sounded great, especially Garth!
Work This Week#
- Finally made the trip I’ve been planning for months… met some camera specialists from Colorado for a week of high paced camera installs and intense knowledge transfer. I’ve spent so many hours in the office organizing and inventorying and buying and planning and configuring, and this week it all came to fruitition. We got 5 new camera systems installed plus one previously installed system fully upgraded. Huge stress relief that the week went according to plan and everything got done

- After the long week of camera work, Friday was spent prepping for another trip next week. For all the time I spend on fun extracurriculars like cameras, I still have a healthy assignment of routine streamgaging.
Personal Projects This Week#
- Current Focus: Circling around to previous projects
- Progress: beefed up security on my hosting setup, improved workflow on my media apps, upgraded my daily driver distro to the most up to date version, kubuntu 26.04.
- Next Steps: set up usenet and set up my NAS
The Week in Training#
- Training Phase: Recovery
- Key Workout: none! The field days were long at work and because its a recovery week, I took like 4 days off in a row
- Feelings: it’s mentally challenging to take of so many days in a row, but I know it’s been good for my body. Ready for the next few weeks of higher intensity.
Reading and Listening This Week#
- Song of the Week: Act Naturally - Buck Owens
- Current Reading: This Is How They Tell Me The World Ends by Nicole Perlroth
- Quick Thought: This book is all about hacking, cyber espionage, software and hardware exploits, and the ways we are all vulnerable to attacks from hostile actors. Makes me want to buy some solar panels, triple the size of my garden, and dig a well…
A Cool Website I Visited This Week#
- Cool Site: https://apps.usgs.gov/hivis/?state=OR
- Why it’s worth a click: shameless plug for the camera monitoring network being established at stream monitoring sites in Oregon. Honored to have personally installed more than half of these cameras.

🟢 The Best Thing#
Almost total success with the camera install trip. Lots of great collaboration with very talented streamgagers and awesome scientific value added to our monitoring sites.
🔴 The Worst Thing#
Trips away from home are bittersweet… I miss haleigh and the dog a lot while I’m gone. Charlie gets anxious and can be a handful when one of us is out of the house, usually that means Haleigh gets stuck dealing with an extra-wound up dog.
End of Log.
